Ground-breaking sale of global carbon credits to Microsoft

Alistair Jaque and Sarah-Jane Sale at Deutsch Miller recently advised the Macdoch Group on a ground-breaking sale of global carbon credits to Microsoft in the US. As part of its agricultural business, Macdoch Group runs Angus cattle at various properties in New South Wales.  Over the last few years time-controlled rotational grazing has led to greater soil carbon concentration on those properties. The carbon credits generated by the sequestered carbon in the soil are a commodity which can be sold internationally to assist companies to meet their carbon reduction goals, while also generating revenue for Australian livestock operators and land owners.
